"what are human beings, that you think of them; mere mortals, that you care for them?" (Psalm 8:4, GNT) and 1 "Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: 2 "Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? 3 Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. 4 "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. 5 Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line? 6 What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone 7 as the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? (Job 38:1-7, NLT) Just one more, for now: "1 The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?" (Psalm 24, 1-3, NIV) Would we ask anything of God? What right do we have? Who do we think we are? And yet, He desires a relationship with us, He does ask us to draw close to Him, to seek Him, to pursue Him, to learn from and about Him. He even goes so far as to ask us to remind Him of His promises and to ask Him for whatever we need! And thousands of years ago, God promised us a chance for redemption. He promised Eve that it would be through her descendants and Job knew of God's faithfulness when he cried out for an advocate. God does not fail! Jesus stepped down from His Heavenly throne to take on the life of a fetus, an infant, a child, an adolescent, and then a man who was to be betrayed to a merciless death. He saw these events before the dawn of time, took His place, and even refused repeated opportunities to call off the crucifixion. And He did it all for you! and for me! "How Great Is Our God?! Sing with me, How Great is our God?!" His greatness is beyond our comprehension. The highest heaven cannot contain Him! I just came in from the balmy -20C dusk, looking at the stars with my sweet husband. The sky still had some daylight, but the stars were already so beautifully brilliant. Each star that we see is so much bigger than our own sun, and so far away that it takes millions of years just for the light to reach our eyes. Some of those stars might not even exist any more, it takes that long to see them! Yet God is greater! He is forever, and He chooses to dwell here on this Earth, and even within those who love Him! How can we contain so much of His love and not just burst?! How Great is our God?!
"But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!" (1 Kings 8:27, NIV)
