“‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” (Acts 13:44-47, ESV)
Who makes the law? We each have our own law within is. It's typically a selfish law that is in place for the sake of survival. My needs come first. We learn it as infants - if we cry, we get fed. As we age, we may also develop a sense of compassion which might direct us to care for others, as we prepare for the natural course of life; parenthood. When there is no law, there is anarchy, and we've seen this throughout history. We appoint leaders who make and enforce laws for our security and protection, which at its core, is still self-serving.
And then there's "religion", which is basically the laws of various beliefs. The Jews have the Law of Moses, which is believed to be given by God. Others have their own; the Sutras, the Vedas, the Quran, etc, each given by their own gods or prophets.
Whatever you believe, is your right and your privilege and no one has the authority to take it from you. This works outwardly, too. Whatever someone else believes is their right and their privilege and no one has the authority to take it from them. Each is right in their own mind, their own rights, their own privilege, and will defend themselves according to their own faith.
But we're supposed to reach the world for Christ, right? Yes, but the Bible is loaded with commands to protect, to love, to forgive, to show compassion, to be peace makers, to be wise yet gentle. If we truly believe in Christ, then we KNOW that we are not the Spirit of God. It is the Spirit Who truly convicts our souls between right and wrong. Jesus has given us jobs to do, as believers. We are to reach everyone, in truth and love, in gentleness and respect. The convictions are spiritual and only the Spirit can truly reach our spirits.
Jesus made many comparisons to farming, with good reason. We are the workers, the farmers. We work the soil, we plant and nurture the seeds. We do not have full control of the outcome. We can do everything absolutely correctly and then get wiped out by the weather or a new disease. We are left to rely on God, whether we see that or not. This is because He has the authority over all things, including life, death, the weather, and the provisions. We cannot stand over our fields and demand that the seeds produce a crop. As it is with farming, it is with other people. We cannot demand their beliefs. We do not have the authority. But if we live right for Christ, by the Spirit in love,[b] joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,[c] 23 gentleness, and[d] self-control, and pray without ceasing, we will draw people to a life and soul-saving relationship with Christ.
May you be blessed as you are a blessing to others. <3
