We don't always have affirmation that we are where God wants us to be but it is a very real blessing when we do.
"Now King David was told, "The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God." So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing." (2 Samuel 6:12, NIV)
Where ever the Presence of the Lord is, is where the blessing is for those who love Him. Let us rejoice and be glad in His Presence within us and in our lives.
"Now then, tell my servant David, 'This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel." (2 Samuel 7:8, NIV)
No matter what we do with our lives, whether it seems great or humble in human understanding, when we do it for the Lord, He is able to do great things through us.
"David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people." (2 Samuel 8:15, NIV)
We might not become king or queen of our land, but doing what is right and just for our people could lead to some opportunities of blessings. But do we do it for our benefit, or for our love of God? Do yo think it makes a difference? I know I do! I think someone else does, too:
"Mephibosheth bowed down and said, "What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?" (2 Samuel 9:8, NIV)
What a humble response from someone who is being honoured by the king! It's so very humbling to know what King Jesus has done for us, who are so undeserving. We don't even know that Mephibosheth was doing anything right with his life, that he was simply being blessed for who he is. But he knew how best to respond. It's also reassuring to know that he was not forgotten, even in his brokenness. Life in those days was especially difficult for the lame.
Let us be humble and grateful for the many blessings that God has provided for us, knowing that the best is still yet to come!
