Each king was worse than the one before. God allows mankind to see ourselves for what we are without Him. Life feels that way, now, with our political leaders all seeming to be worse than the last. No matter how out of control life looks, we must remember, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." ( Isaiah 9:6, KJV) We must also remember that He allows all things for a purpose. What governments has God allowed other than the ones we see in the world today? The Bible is full of accounts of evil leaders including Pharaoh and Herod. Since then, there's a long list of oppressive and murderous leaders around the world. Names like Nero, Stalin, and Hitler represent nothing but infamy. What is God allowing in our time? What is His purpose in it? Can we trust Him? Do we trust Him? And what is our purpose in His plans?
I found this to be interesting, 1 Kings 14:5, "But the Lord had told Ahijah, "Jeroboam's wife is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill, and you are to give her such and such an answer. When she arrives, she will pretend to be someone else." (NIV)
Even when we can't see what we're to do, God can. Let us continue to trust in Him.
Just in case we need reminders of why we can and should trust God, the Bible is full of reasons, including this one, 1 Kings 15:4, "Nevertheless, for David's sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong."
God is faithful in fulfilling His promises, even when we give Him reason not to be.
