If you're thinking of having a backyard church or even on your front step, and you're not sure if it will be right, give it to God and He will help make it a blessing. If you're not sure if anyone will show up, He will. It's good to just spend time with Him, from time to time. Be encouraged to make a plan, have an extra seat ready if you can, and just spend time with God if He's all that shows up. He's more than enough. If you don't have the ability to host something in person, perhaps a time of online prayer and fellowship might be good. Sure there's a record number of online sermons available, but it lacks that one-on-one personalized touch. Let someone know that you care about their needs. Maybe start with that; I'm praying for you, is there anything specific you want me to pray about? can we pray together?... or share some YouTube videos with someone if they have time and if they're interested. I might recommend the Chosen, but then again, of course I would! :)
In keeping with my backyard church services, I set up today, and the weather is glorious. I didn't have anyone preregister, but I set up a couple of chairs, some music and snacks, sanitizer, of course, and a spare Bible. I just set my playlist to shuffle and the first song to come up was the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. What a great start. Before long, an unexpected guest came along who hasn't been to church in quite a while. Of course, I was able to accommodate their needs and I can't tell you what a blessing it was to see that person show up. After they left, I still had some time scheduled, so I listened to an audio sermon, spent some time in prayer, and in worship along with some more music, some Scripture, and of course I enjoyed a snack. For the record, the sunshine is already getting to be too hot for chocolate-dipped granola bars. Sure it was yummy, and not quite messy, yet, but I may plan for a sun and shade combination, moving forward. Being outdoors, there was some noise from the traffic on the road, but not bad. In fact, I thought I heard a vehicle stop but I wasn't sure. Fed-Ex came and went without interrupting.
