"Jehoiada then made a covenant between the Lord and the king and people that they would be the Lord 's people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people."
Government that makes a covenant with God?! That's what we need, today!
2 Kings 10:31 (NIV):
"Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit."
It becomes rather difficult to follow who's on God's side, here, and who's not. Seems to be similar issues with our governments, today.
But never lose hope in our government, in each other, or in ourselves, because God is able to turn our mistakes into something good. He is our ultimate Hope. The Bible is full of examples, including this one:
2 Kings 13:4
"Then Jehoahaz sought the Lord 's favor, and the Lord listened to him, for he saw how severely the king of Aram was oppressing Israel."
He went from doing evil in the eyes of the Lord to seeking the Lord's favor, "and the Lord listened to him". Our past can't keep God away nor keep Him from loving us. God is faithful!
